The French Law on Energy Transition for Green Growth (Loi de Transition Énergétique pour la Croissance Verte – LTECV) requires a reduction in landfill capacity, while reiterating the waste hierarchy : prevention, reuse, recycling, then material recovery, energy recovery and finally landfill. This transformation is forcing players in the waste industry to rethink the way they manage final waste, in order to contribute to reducing the environmental and climatic impact of the country as a whole.

For platforms and sorting centers seeking to improve their environmental performance, Néolithe offers Accelerated Fossilization of non-recyclable, non-inert and non-hazardous waste. Designed to treat sorting rejects from business waste, Néolithe supports its customers throughout the process, from waste characterization to transformation in its Fossilizators.

By opening up a new circular path for the management of final waste, Néolithe treats this waste and produces a construction material. By sequestering the biogenic carbon contained in waste, this technology is in line with the ambitions of the French National Low Carbon Strategy.

Technology in the process of being deployed

After a pilot plant capable of processing several thousand tonnes of waste a year, Néolithe is stepping up its deployment in France with regional 100,000-tonne units. This territorial coverage will promote local waste management and strengthen the local circular economy.

Accelerated Fossilization : how is the waste processed ?

1. Oversorting and evacuation to recycling facilities

Néolithe encourages the recycling of materials whenever possible. Where this is not possible, shredding processes reduce waste to powder. This step, combined with sorting technologies, enables initially non-recyclable materials to be sorted manually and mechanically. The recyclable elements, such as plastics, metals or gypsum, are then extracted and reintegrated into the appropriate recycling channels.

2. Accelerated Fossilization

Waste sorting rejects are sorted, then micronized and mixed with a mineral binder formulated by Néolithe. The mixture is then pressurized and extruded into the desired form, now aggregates.

3. Aggregates production

After shaping, aggregates acquire their mechanical properties during a maturing phase.

4. Construction applications

Anthropocite aggregates can partially replace natural quarried aggregates in non-structural concretes, without any technical or environmental risks. And tomorrow, thanks to the ATEx currently in progress, other uses will be possible.

Non-hazardous industrial waste : 19 12 12

Non-hazardous industrial waste is a category of waste produced mainly by industrial, commercial, craft and service activities, containing paper and cardboard, plastics, metals, wood, glass and textiles.

Ordinary industrial waste from construction : 17 09 04

Ordinary industrial waste from building sites is a category of non-hazardous industrial waste and comes specifically from construction, renovation and demolition activities on building sites.

Bulky waste/General waste : 20 03 07

There are two types of waste at the recycling center :

Bulky waste, refers to bulky waste such as furniture, mattresses and household appliances (without bulky items),
General waste, corresponds to waste generated by industrial, commercial or craft activities, such as production residues, industrial packaging and various materials.

And tomorrow ?

The treatment of Residual Household Waste, which refers to waste produced by households and not sorted at source for recycling or recovery, is currently in the research and development phase in our R&D laboratory.
